On Saturday, the women’s volleyball team for Boise State forfeited the game to San Jose State. This is a big deal because many speculate that the reason for the forfeit is that San Jose’s team features Blaire Fleming, who is transgender.

However, a recent statement from Boise State does not outright state the exact reason for the forfeit and is rather vague.

“‘Boise State volleyball will not play its scheduled match at San José State on Saturday, Sept. 28,” read the statement. “Per Mountain West Conference policy, the Conference will record the match as a forfeit and a loss for Boise State. The Broncos will next compete on Oct. 3 against Air Force.”

Much of the response to Boise State and the situation has been positive. Many, including Idaho Governor Brad Little, believe it was the right move.

“I applaud @BoiseState for working within the spirit of my Executive Order, the Defending Women’s Sports Act. We need to ensure player safety for all of our female athletes and continue the fight for fairness in women’s sports,” wrote Little.

Of course, transgender women in sports have become a huge topic, and it seems as though Fleming is now the latest story.

Blaire Fleming Is Currently A Senior

Despite the recent problem that is speculated to have been caused by Fleming, she is currently a redshirt senior at San Jose State, and this likely will be her last season.

She originally started her career at Coastal Carolina and then transferred to San Jose after her first year.

Fleming has played in 63 matches in her NCAA career, the most in one season in 2022-2023, when she appeared in 27.

On the other hand, some people have criticized Boise State for forfeiting the game, citing it as a discriminatory move against Blaire Fleming. Transgender athletes like Blaire Fleming should be able to compete without facing discrimination or prejudice.Moving forward, it is crucial for schools and sports organizations to implement inclusive policies that support transgender athletes and promote diversity and equality in sports. By fostering an environment of acceptance and respect, we can ensure that all athletes have the opportunity to excel and thrive in their chosen sports. In conclusion, the situation involving Blaire Fleming and the Boise State women’s volleyball team sheds light on the importance of inclusivity and equality in sports. It is a reminder that all athletes deserve to be treated fairly and with respect, regardless of their gender identity.
