Cat Deeley has revealed that watching her husband, Patrick Kielty, perform live fills her with nerves.
During a recent episode of This Morning, the presenter opened up about the anxiety she feels when her comedian husband takes the stage,
admitting that the pressure of live performances makes her “so frightened.”
Cat’s Candid Confession
While hosting This Morning alongside Ben Shephard, Cat and her co-host welcomed comedian Joe Pasquale to discuss his latest comedy tour.
The conversation soon turned to Patrick’s stand-up career, with Joe praising the Irish funnyman’s comedic talents and urging viewers to see him live.
Grateful for the compliment, Cat responded enthusiastically, saying, “They’re amazing!”
However, she quickly admitted that, despite her confidence in her husband’s skills, she finds stand-up comedy to be one of the most nerve-wracking professions.
“It’s one of the scariest things you can do, I think,” she remarked.
Ben then asked if she personally gets nervous watching Patrick perform, to which she responded without hesitation: “So nervous! So frightened.”
Cat explained her reasoning, pointing out the intense pressure that comes with live comedy. “You go out there with a microphone, and everybody in the audience has paid £40 a ticket and just goes, ‘Right, make me laugh,’” she said, highlighting the high expectations placed on comedians.
Patrick’s Quick Wit Wins Over Audiences
Joe Pasquale, who is no stranger to the stand-up scene, then chimed in with a lighthearted joke about his own show tickets not being quite as expensive as Patrick’s, prompting laughter from Ben. He also praised Patrick’s ability to handle hecklers, calling him “great” at dealing with audience interruptions.
Cat agreed, adding: “Yeah, he is, he’s very good with that.”
While Patrick’s ability to think on his feet may ease some of Cat’s worries, it’s clear that she still finds it nerve-wracking to see him perform, knowing the pressure that comes with making an audience laugh night after night.
A Love Story That Stood the Test of Time
Cat and Patrick’s romance has always been one filled with admiration and grand gestures. The two first met in 2002 when they co-hosted Fame Academy on the BBC, but at the time, their relationship remained strictly platonic.
Years later, Patrick proved just how much he cared for Cat by making a bold move—he flew all the way from Belfast to Los Angeles just to take her out for brunch. That heartfelt gesture clearly left a lasting impression, and their friendship eventually blossomed into love.
In 2012, they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Rome, surrounded by their closest friends and family. Since then, they have built a beautiful life together and are now proud parents to two sons, Milo, born in 2016, and James, born in 2018.
Patrick’s Recent Health Scare
While Patrick may be thriving on stage, he has faced some health challenges in recent months. Cat recently revealed on ITV that her husband had been battling shingles, an illness that initially left them both confused about what was happening.
At first, they assumed Patrick had simply injured himself while doing some home renovations. Cat recalled, “He thought he’d touched his face. He’d got this burning, tingling, stinging sensation, so that’s what he thought it was.”
However, as his symptoms worsened, they realized it was something more serious. Medical expert Dr. Sara Kayat later explained to Cat that the early signs of shingles often include a tingling, burning sensation before a rash appears.
Cat was surprised by the placement of Patrick’s symptoms, saying, “They can be on the trunk of your body? [Patrick] has got them on his face, actually!”
A Strong Partnership
Despite the pressures of their respective careers and Patrick’s recent health scare, Cat and Patrick continue to support each other through every challenge. Whether it’s Cat feeling anxious as she watches her husband perform or Patrick flying across the world to woo his future wife, their bond remains unshaken.
Their love story is one of mutual admiration, heartfelt gestures, and unwavering support. Even as Cat admits to being “frightened” for Patrick in his career, it’s clear that she also takes immense pride in his talents and resilience.
