HOT: Geno Auriemma deserves to receive a lot of backlash from WNBA fans for his harsh criticism of Caitlin Clark in his latest interview: “She should keep her mouth shut if she can’t say anything good.”

UConn head coach Geno Auriemma is doubling down on his comments about Caitlin Clark being targeted. But this time, he says that Caitlin Clark — and even Paige Bueckers — don’t have bodies that are built for the WNBA.
Geno Auriemma isn’t mincing words about his feelings about the Caitlin Clark-WNBA discourse. Earlier this week, he mentioned that he felt Clark was being targeted because of her immense talent and the visibility she is creating for the WNBA.

In Fever victory, Caitlin Clark puts on passing masterclass

On Thursday, while visiting the Dan Patrick show, Auriemma was asked how he believes Clark is handling the WNBA’s physicality. That’s when he also expressed that Caitlin does not have the body frame built for the WNBA:

“The delusional fanbase that follows her disrespected the #WNBA players by saying she’s going to go in that league and tear it a part… The kid was set up for failure right from the beginning.”

“I think she’s handling [it] great. I think she talks a lot of [expletive], and she gets a lot of [expletive] back. So, she deserves everything she gets because she gives it as good as she gets it. She’s just not built for the physicality of this league, and she’s not quick enough to get away from the physicality.”

“There’s a lot of learning curve like Diana said, and when she gets it, she has elite skills that are gonna really help her. But she needs to be on a better team, and she needs to be more experienced…”

Why Geno is not ready to walk away as UConn women's basketball coach

When asked if Paige Bueckers had the build to play in the WNBA, Geno didn’t hesitate to share his thoughts rather bluntly:

“No. But her game is different…I think the subtleties of her game will translate. However, her rookie year, she will get it as bad as Caitlin’s getting it right now.”

Geno Auriemma’s recent comments about Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers not having bodies built for the WNBA have sparked a lot of debate among fans and analysts. While some agree with Auriemma’s assessment, others believe that physical attributes are not the only factor that determines success in the WNBA.It’s no secret that the WNBA is a highly physical league, with players having to navigate through strong defenders and tough competition night in and night out. While size and strength can definitely be an advantage in this setting, it’s not the only thing that matters. Skill, basketball IQ, work ethic, and the ability to adapt to different playing styles are also crucial components of success in the WNBA.Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers may not fit the traditional mold of what a WNBA player looks like, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be successful in the league. Both players have elite skills and a deep understanding of the game that set them apart from their peers. With the right coaching, training, and support system, they have the potential to make a significant impact at the next level. It’s important to remember that every player’s journey to the WNBA is unique. While some may have a smoother transition than others, it ultimately comes down to dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to learn and grow. As fans, we should support and encourage all players as they pursue their dreams, regardless of what their physical attributes may be.In the end, Geno Auriemma’s comments serve as a reminder that success in the WNBA is not guaranteed, regardless of how talented a player may be. It takes a combination of factors, including physicality, skill, mentality, and opportunity, to thrive in the competitive world of professional basketball. As we continue to watch Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, and other rising stars navigate their basketball careers, let’s keep an open mind and root for their success every step of the way.
